Hours of fun with our budget-friendly table hockey.

Are you looking for a great summer project with your kids? Or something cool to build with you BFFs?  If so, you might want to see this easy DIY wooden table hockey. It's straight forward, you can choose the wood you love most -- rustic cedar, modern pine, or sturdy oak -- and give it a nice varnish finish. The slots of the goal might be the most complicated, but just be patience, you’ll manage a great finish.

This table hockey measures 40” long 22” wide and will need lumber and wood panel.

Ideal for: Kids over 7 years old and adults.

Let’s do this!

Instructions

A note before starting -

Please understand - the below diagrams are genuinely and carefully designed to help you navigate the build process. However, we don’t include specific recommendations for which tools, hardware, or products to use. These truly are “DIY” designs.

As such – a significant portion of the build-process will be up to you, the builder. So please know, there is no “right” or “wrong” way to assemble any of our designs! If you need to depart from the instructions, or rearrange things along the way, feel free to.

The only thing we ask: please be safe! And of course, there’s no shame in asking an expert for help or seeking guidance from your local professionals at any time.

Wooden Table Hockey Assembly Steps

Step 1: Building the Lower Frame of the Wooden Table Hockey

‍

Step 1: Building the Lower Frame of the Wooden Table Hockey

Our first step is to start by cutting all the lumber. Make sure you measure them correctly and then use your gear to protect yourself and cut all the lumber. This might be the longest part of the process, but it will be worth it.

We made some preliminary drills and then we started screwing each profile into place.

In this part of the process we are working on the bottom frame by screwing 4  2”x2” inch profiles that are 21” inches long to two 40” inch profiles that are also 2” x 2” inches.

‍

Step 2: Building the Middle Cover or the Table Hockey

‍

Step 2: Building the Middle Cover or the Table Hockey

‍

Now we are going to work on the middle cover of our hockey table. For this step we are using a 6 millimeter thick wooden panel that will measure 24” inches x 40” inches.

Make sure to measure it straight and then carefully cut it.

We are going to nail it on the entire surface of our main base. For this part of the process we are using 1 ½” inch nails, and when you have finished nailing the panel the result looks like this.

Step 3: Assembling the Upper Frame of the Table Hockey

‍

Step 3: Assembling the Upper Frame of the Table Hockey

‍

Now we will prepare the profiles that make up the upper frame of our hockey table, making sure that each piece has the appropriate measurements.

For the intermediate profiles that will function as goals for our hockey table, we are going to need to make a special slot right in the middle of this profile.

We marked them first very carefully and then with the help of a saw we shaped the goals. Do this process with caution and patience.

When you finish this process we are going to sand the roughness with a wooden sandpaper.

‍

Step 4: Affixing the Top Frame of the Table Hockey

And with all our parts ready now comes the process of assembling the top frame of our hockey table.

We are going to prepare our nails previously and then we are going to assemble the upper frame, which consists of 4 1”x3” inch profiles, 22” inches long that are attached to two 1”x3” inch profiles and 40” inches long.

The middle profiles that the goals have go about 10” inches apart. Once all the parts are affixed it’s time to give the final finish to our hockey table. For this we are using a varnish with a mahogany finish.

And once you have finished varnishing the entire surface, we are going to screw our upper frame to the lower frame using 2 ½ inch screws.
