How it connects
The female coupling screws onto the external cylinder-style thread; the mating appliance connector opens the cylinder valve. Detailed seal geometry was not verified from a dimensional standard.
Male and female halves
This is the male, externally threaded cylinder-style half. The mating appliance half has an internally threaded coupling and a central valve-actuating probe; that probe does not make its coupling male.
Usually connects to
- Female CGA 600 appliance, regulator or hose connector
Common sizes
- One defined interface: nominal 1-inch diameter (25.4 mm), 20 threads per inch (1.27 mm pitch). Cylinder capacity and hose size do not change this interface size.
Where it is used
Portable propane appliancesCamping stoves and heatersPropane torchesDisposable-cylinder adapter hoses
Variations
- Adapter versions without an internal back-check valve
How to recognise it
Look for fine external threads on a short cylinder-style neck, nominally 25.4 mm across with 1.27 mm pitch, and a central valve opening. Confirm the CGA 600 or 1"-20 specification; appearance alone does not establish compatibility.
Often confused with
| Confused with | How to tell them apart |
|---|---|
| QCC1 / Type 1 propane tank connection | QCC1 uses a much coarser external tank thread and large handwheel coupling; an adapter may carry both interfaces. |
| Female CGA 600 | The female coupling has internal fine threads and a projecting central probe. Classify gender by the coupling threads. |
| NPT pipe thread | CGA 600 is the specific 1-inch, 20-TPI cylinder interface; a nominal 1-inch NPT port is not equivalent. |

Good to know
The hose reproduces the cylinder outlet rather than attaching directly to it. Some sellers loosely call the male thread 1-20 UNF; seal dimensions and engagement must be checked.
