Security Torx Center-Pin Drive

Tamper-resistant Torx (Torx TR, 'pin-in Torx', 'security star') screw drive: a standard six-lobe hexalobular recess in the fastener head with a solid post (pin) in the centre, driven by a matching bit with a hollow tip.

How it connects

Driver tip is inserted axially into the recess; the six lobes transmit torque; the centre pin enters the bit's bore, so a standard solid Torx bit cannot seat. Temporary tool engagement, no sealing.

Male and female halves

Recess (female, with male pin) on the screw head; the TR bit is male lobes with a female centre hole. This port is the screw-head recess.

Common sizes

  • Security sizes share Torx T-numbers: listed ranges include TR6/T6H–TR55 and TR8/T8–TR40; common screws use TR10–TR30, especially T10/T15/T20/T25.
  • About 3.3 mm across lobes with a 1 mm center pin is consistent with T15; confirm the actual size.

Variations

  • Torx Plus Tamper Resistant (5-lobe pin, Acument); Torx Plus Tamper-Resistant 5-lobe with pin (TS)
  • Torx TR in button, flat, pan head screws and sheet-metal screws
  • Plain Torx without pin

How to recognise it

Six-pointed star-shaped recess with rounded lobes and a small round pin standing up in the centre of the recess; found on button, pan or flat head security screws.

Torx Plus Tamper ResistantTorx Plus TR has five lobes with squarer lobe flanks; Torx TR has six rounded lobes.
Pin-in hex (security hex/Allen)Hex has six flat sides and sharp corners rather than rounded lobes. Hex has six flat sides; Torx has rounded star lobes.

Good to know

This is a screw-head-to-driver interface. Torx is a trademark; the generic shape is hexalobular or six-lobe. Confirm the exact T-size rather than relying on an estimated T15.
