How it connects
The metal hook/pin at the rear of the slide extension runner inserts into a hole drilled into the back of the drawer box as the drawer is pushed into place, securing the drawer against vertical lift-off and horizontal drift.
Male and female halves
Male hook/pin on the slide runner mating with a female bored hole (5 mm or 6 mm) in the drawer box rear panel.
Usually connects to
- Matching pre-drilled rear drawer-panel locating hole, commonly 5 or 6 mm
- Matching rear drawer notch
Common sizes
- Rear pins/hooks commonly 5, 5.5 or 6 mm diameter, engaging a matching drilled hole.
- Projection/insertion descriptions span about 6–12 mm, often 8–12 or 10–12 mm; match the runner instructions.

How to recognise it
A stamped vertical metal prong, upturned tab, or forward-pointing pin at the very rear tip of an undermount drawer slide rail.
Often confused with
| Confused with | How to tell them apart |
|---|---|
| Undermount front locking device (catch clip) | Front locking clips mount under the front bottom corners with catch levers and screws, whereas rear hooks are fixed metal prongs at the back of the runner that engage holes in the rear panel. Front locking devices clip to the front underside of the drawer via orange/blue plastic catches with adjustment screws, whereas locating pins are fixed or adjustable steel pins at the rear end of the slide. |
| rear cabinet mounting bracket | Rear cabinet mounting brackets secure the stationary slide rail to the rear internal face/wall of a face-frame cabinet carcass, rather than connecting the moving runner to the drawer box. |
| Front locking device catch | Front locking devices attach to the bottom front of the drawer box and snap into clips, whereas locating pins are fixed at the rear end of the metal runner and engage drilled holes in the back. |
| Cabinet shelf support pin | Shelf support pins insert into cabinet side panel line boring (typically 5 mm), whereas drawer locating pins are permanently affixed to drawer slide rails to anchor drawer boxes. Shelf pins are freestanding 5 mm or 1/4-inch pegs that plug into cabinet side panels, not integrated onto drawer slide runners. |

Good to know
Standard feature across concealed undermount drawer slide systems (e.g. Blum Tandem/Movento, Hettich Quadro, Grass Dynapro). The slide runner requires both a notch in the drawer bottom rear and a drilled mating hole.
