How it connects
Insert matching CPVC tubing into the socket with approved CPVC solvent cement; the softened surfaces fuse and cure into a sealed joint. Follow the system instructions for preparation, primer and cure time.
Male and female halves
This is the female socket. The mating plain tube end (or compatible fitting spigot) is the male insertion member; female here does not mean a female thread.

Common sizes
- CTS CPVC commonly nominal 1/2–2 in, especially 1/2 and 3/4 in.
- Tube ODs: 1/2 in nominal = 0.625 in, 3/4 in = 0.875 in, 1 in = 1.125 in. Socket bore/depth require the fitting specification.

Variations
- Socket ends on couplings, elbows, tees and transition fittings
- socket x socket couplings, elbows, tees
- socket x FNPT/MNPT adapters
- IPS socket x CTS socket transition couplings

How to recognise it
Look for a smooth unthreaded receiving socket with an internal tube stop, and CPVC, CTS, size or ASTM D2846 markings. Confirm material and dimensional family from the manufacturer; a smooth opening alone cannot prove CPVC CTS compatibility.
Often confused with
| Confused with | How to tell them apart |
|---|---|
| CPVC IPS (Schedule 40/80) solvent socket | Check CTS versus IPS markings and the actual tubing outside diameter; equal nominal sizes do not establish dimensional compatibility. IPS sockets fit iron-pipe-size OD (1/2 in = 0.840 in), larger than CTS (0.625 in); IPS CPVC is usually gray (Sch 80) or marked Sch 40/80, CTS is tan/cream marked D2846 or CTS. |
| Female threaded CPVC adapter | A solvent socket has a smooth bonding bore; a female threaded end has internal helical threads. |
| CTS push-to-connect fitting | A solvent socket requires cement fusion; a push-to-connect fitting uses a mechanical grip and seal. Confirm the fitting specification rather than relying on size alone. |
| PVC solvent-weld slip socket | PVC is white/gray and IPS sized; not rated for hot water; uses PVC cement. |
| Copper sweat (solder) socket | Same tube OD but metal and soldered, not cemented. |

Good to know
The CPVC socket is separate from a compression outlet on the same valve. CTS describes dimensions and does not mean copper may be solvent-welded into the socket.
