How it connects
Insert the matching PVC pipe or spigot into the hub using compatible PVC solvent cement and the manufacturer’s preparation procedure. Solvent welding fuses the surfaces into a permanent sealed joint.
Male and female halves
This is the female hub/socket. The mating male end is a plain pipe end or fitting spigot (Spt). Hub x Hub fittings have two receiving sockets; Hub x Spigot fittings have one of each.

Common sizes
- S&D solvent-weld fittings commonly nominal 2/3/4/6/8 in; IPEX molded fittings span 3–8 in and fabricated SDR35 fittings 8–24 in. JM Eagle lists D3034/D2729 pipe in 3/4/6 in; broader D3034 pipe descriptions span 4–15 in.
- Nominal 4 in S&D OD is about 4.215 in (107.1 mm), versus 4.500 in Schedule 40. A 6 in example has about 160 mm hub ID for 6.275 in (159.4 mm) OD pipe.
- NDS 41P0 has nominal 4 in hubs; nominal size is not a universal bore/depth specification.

How to recognise it
Look for a widened, smooth, unthreaded socket on a fitting marked S&D or specified for D3034/D2729 pipe, typically with an internal pipe stop. Verify the manufacturer’s size and joint designation: white PVC appearance and nominal diameter alone cannot identify compatibility.
