ENT Conduit Snap Socket

The receiving socket of an ENT (electrical nonmetallic tubing) snap-in fitting: a bore sized to the corrugated tube's OD with flexible fingers/latches that click into a corrugation valley to retain the tube without tools or glue.

How it connects

Cut end of corrugated ENT is pushed straight into the socket until the retaining fingers snap into a corrugation valley; mechanical hold only, not watertight unless the fitting is rated/gasketed for concrete-tight use.

Male and female halves

Female: the fitting socket. The male is simply the corrugated ENT tube itself; there is no separate male snap-in fitting end.

Usually connects to

  • Plain-cut corrugated ENT tubing of the same nominal trade size

Common sizes

  • ENT trade sizes include 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1-1/4, 1-1/2 and 2 in; the trade name is not the measured socket diameter.
  • Carlon quick-connect couplings and threaded adapters are offered in 1/2, 3/4 and 1 in sizes.

Variations

  • One-piece quick-connect
  • Two-piece snap fitting, including eight-tab types
  • Snap coupling, both ends
  • Snap-to-male-thread adapter
  • Snap box connector
  • Concrete-tight version

How to recognise it

Short plastic (PVC or polycarbonate, often grey/blue) collar with slotted flexible fingers or tabs around the open end; part listings say 'ENT snap-in'; other end may be another snap-in, a male NPS/NPT thread, or a box-knockout snap.

Often confused with

Confused withHow to tell them apart
PVC conduit slip (solvent-weld) socketSlip sockets are smooth bores for rigid smooth PVC conduit and are glued; ENT snap-in sockets have flex fingers/latches for corrugated tube.
Liquidtight flexible nonmetallic conduit (LFNC) fittingLFNC fittings use a compression nut and ferrule; ENT snap-in fittings have no nut.
Smooth conduit solvent-weld socketThe ENT snap socket has flexible retention features for corrugations, rather than relying solely on a smooth cemented socket.
Male NPT adapter endExternal screw threads belong to the opposite interface; the ENT receiving socket retains tubing by tabs.

Good to know

ENT box connectors and snap-in × male adapters can both use this finger-style conduit socket.
