How it connects
The male stem slides into the open end of a telescopic pool pole until the internal spring-loaded dual pins or plastic V-clip buttons depress and pop outward through predrilled through-holes in the pole tube.
Male and female halves
Male cylindrical stem (on accessory/skimmer/brush/rake) inserts into female tubular receptacle at the end of the pool pole.
Usually connects to
- Matching telescopic pool-pole female end, commonly 1, 1-1/8 or 1-1/4 in ID with the correct button-hole pattern
Common sizes
- Pool-pole bores commonly 1-1/8–1-1/4 in (28.5–31.8 mm); one male stem is about 28.5 mm (1.12 in) with paired 1/4 in (6 mm) spring buttons.
- Other accessory spigots are listed around 18–25.4 mm for 1–1-1/4 in tubes; check actual stem and pole fit.

Variations
- Plastic molded stem with integrated or internal plastic V-clip
- Aluminum tubular stem with metal double-pin spring clip (butterfly / V-clip)
- Single hole for spring clip / V-clip button
- Dual through-hole for cross-bolt or dual push-pin
- Standard 1-1/4 inch / 1-1/8 inch pool pole adapter
How to recognise it
Hollow or molded plastic/metal cylindrical plug (approx. 28.5 mm outer diameter) protruding from a cleaning tool (skimmer, rake, brush), fitted with two opposing spring-loaded push buttons (V-clip).
Often confused with
| Confused with | How to tell them apart |
|---|---|
| Standard PVC or plumbing slip fitting | Plumbing slip joints are solvent-welded or pressure sealed without snap-button retention holes or spring clips. |
| Threaded pool pole adapter | Threaded adapters use acme or standard coarse male/female screw threads rather than slip-fit push-button locking holes. |
| Standard 1-1/4 inch commercial pool pole V-clip connection | Commercial pool poles usually have a 1-1/4 in (31.75 mm) inner diameter mating with standard V-clips (butterfly clips), whereas smaller specialty attachments may use narrower tubular shanks (~18 mm to 1 in). |
| Threaded pool pole attachment | Threaded attachments screw into the pole end using male/female Acme or standard threads instead of sliding in and locking with spring-loaded pins or through-holes. |

Good to know
Although ubiquitous across swimming pool equipment manufacturers as a universal standard, dimensions are driven by industry de facto conventions (nominally 1-1/4" pole OD / 1-1/8" pole ID) rather than formal ISO/ASTM published connection standards.
